Tour Grounds For Sculpture and Discover Art and Nature at Play!
Many guests choose to discover the wonders of GFS on their own using our map for a self-guided tour. These materials, as well as informational support, are available in the Welcome Center.
Another option is a Docent-Led Tour. These tours are available for groups and individual guests daily, by volunteers who are well-trained in art techniques and communication skills. GFS Docents also receive continuing education on the gardens, new exhibitions and artist techniques. This training has prepared them to lead engaging tours for guests. In 2017, GFS Docents provided over 1300 tours to over 12,000 guests!
To confirm availability of our free Walk-In Tours, guests should call (609) 586-0616 on the day of their visit, or stop by the Welcome Center Info desk to sign up.
Walk-In Tour size is limited and filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. All tours are subject to cancellation without notice due to inclement weather or docent availability.
Outdoor Walk-In Tours are sculpture-centered tours of our 42-acres. These tours are regularly scheduled at 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM & 2:00 PM, based on Docent availability. Other times may be available on busy days and summer weekends. Guests should sign up for these 45-60 minute tours in the Welcome Center at the INFO Desk on arrival. Each Docent creates their own tour, so every tour is unique. These tours follow different routes and feature 12-20 sculptures selected by the Docent. Guests can take multiple tours and have an amazing experience each time.
Indoor Walk-In Tours are available in the Seward Johnson Center for the Arts, the Domestic Arts Building, and the Museum Building. Guests should sign up to participate in these tours in the corresponding building. These 30-minute tours are offered mid-day based on Docent availability.
HortiSculpture Tours offer insight into the relationship between the art and landscape of GFS. Over the course of 75 minutes, specially trained Docents provide information on the science of individual plants while guiding participants’ exploration of select works on view. These tours are available every Wednesday, Friday & Saturday at 10:30 AM May through October. Guests should sign up in the Welcome Center at the INFO Desk to participate. Tour size is limited to maximize the guest experience.
